I’m currently Interning at The Photo Studio Melbourne located in Fitzroy. The Photo Studio provides services to people who want an experience in an editorial photoshoot.

My shift activities involves assisting the photographers during photoshoots. Setting up backgrounds, lights and other rigs are part of the routine. Many times, you have to rapidly change the photo sets when photoshoots clashes and your entire life suddenly seems exteremly hectic for a couple of hours. 

I was surprise of the amount of people who signed up for this service. The results look amazing and professioal, as demanded and to the talents of the photographers, the stylist and the make up artist that transforms each person into a highlighted version of themselves. It makes me wonder, then that people desire much to achieve the magazine look. To see the most attractive potential of you must be a comfortable feeling. It builds the confidence that people will admire your image and thus, you as a person, in expense of paying a couple hundred dollars. 

I guess in a visually saturated world, the effort to put personality first becomes redundant when you are constantly slapped with everything attractive and desireable. 

But trying to be less pessimistic, the Studio also provides opportunities for people who want to break into the entertainment industry, or have a portfolio of they can be proud to present. A memory of a time, or a relationship. 

I’ve learned a lot, and I’m continuing to learn. I’m learning technicalities, which is the area I despreately in need of improvement. The first workshop opened my view to the potential of one lighting set, and I am excited to test it out when I have the chance to do a test shoot.
